Chemistry is a challenging A Level that will teach you how advances in information technology and instrumentation are used in chemistry. You will develop your appreciation of the contributions of chemistry to society and the importance of making responsible use of scientific knowledge and evidence.
Throughout the course practical, mathematical and analytical skills will be developed whilst studying a range of knowledge from the three main strands of Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry:
Year 12
• Physical Chemistry covering topics such as Structure & Bonding, Kinetics and Equilibria
• Inorganic Chemistry covering Periodicity, Group 2 and Group7.
• Organic Chemistry covering topics such as Nomenclature and Isomerism, Hydrocarbons, Halogenoalkanes and Alcohols
• Analytical Chemistry covering Chemical Tests and Spectroscopic Techniques
Year 13
• Physical Chemistry covering topics such as Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry, Acid-Base Equilibria
• Inorganic Chemistry covering topics such asTransition Metals and Reactions of Ions in Aqueous Solution
• Organic Chemistry covering topics such as Carbonyl compounds, Aromatic Chemistry and Polymerisation
• Biochemistry covering amino acids, proteins and DNA
• Analytical Chemistry covering further Chemical Tests, Spectroscopic Techniques and Chromatography
