If you already have a keen interest in politics and current affairs, opting to study this course will offer you a unique insight into our fundamental political beliefs and enhance your understanding of the modern world we all live in. The course will help develop your analytical and evaluation skills as well as providing you with knowledge and understanding of a variety of interesting topics on both UK and US politics.
You will begin Politics A-Level in Year 12 with the Government and Politics of the UK, with a range of key topics from the nature and sources of the British Constitution to democracy and participation and the EU. At the end of Year 12, you will begin the second part of the course, Government and Politics of the USA and comparative politics. This will take you from the constitutional framework of the US government to the Electoral Process and Civil Rights.
In Year 13, you will pick up with Comparative politics where you will use structural, rational, and cultural theoretical approaches to make a comparative study of the government and politics of the UK and the USA. A-Level Politics ends with Political ideas, studying some core ideologies including Liberalism, Socialism and Feminism.
