If you love learning about past events to help you understand the present and shape the future, then A-Level History needs you! You will not only build upon your knowledge gained during GCSE, but you will gain a range of highly transferable skills to equip you for higher education and beyond. These skills range from analysing, researching, communication and problem-solving, to prioritising information and learning how to make vital decisions; all invaluable for your future.
During Y12, you will focus on the High Water Mark of the British Empire up until World War One in 1914, with a key focus on the development and consolidation of imperialism and Liberal rule. With the Germany element of the course, you will study the ill-fated Weimar Republic between 1918 and 1933 when Hitler comes to power. You will therefore look at the establishment and ‘Golden Age’ of Weimar as well as the collapse of democracy in Germany.
In Year 13, you will progress to examining Imperial retreat across the Empire between 1914 and 1967, focusing on the contraction of the Empire and decolonisation.
The second year of your Germany course will focus on Hitler’s consolidation of power, Nazi racial policy and the Final Solution. explore themes, ideas or issues that are of significance and personal to you. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 3 outcomes over your A Level studies.
