Bio: Flutist Ashley Addington is an active performer and teacher in the Boston area. A versatile and engaging musician, Ashley brings a thoughtful, collaborative, and elegant approach to her performances. She is a member of Sound Icon and the Plymouth Philharmonic and regularly performs with Grammy-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), Odyssey Opera, and Callithumpian Consort. Other notable recent engagements include performances with Rhode Island Philharmonic, Portland Symphony, Monadnock Music, and Emmanuel Music.
A dedicated educator, Ashley is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Boston, the woodwind coach at Tufts University, and on the faculty at Milton Academy. Ashley’s teaching philosophy focuses on inspiring students to be confident and creative thinkers who are encouraged and guided on their path to becoming well-rounded and successful musicians. She has been the Guest Clinician for the Honors Flute Choir for the New Hampshire Band Directors Association and served as a Masterclass Teacher for the Annual Flute Masterclass sponsored by the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition.
A new music advocate, Ashley has recorded and premiered dozens of new works as a soloist and ensemble member. She enjoys connecting with composers to understand their process, the quick pace of learning new music, and playing a wide range of styles and sounds.
Ashley holds a MM and BM from The Butler School of Music at University of Texas at Austin. She studied with Marianne Gedigian and Robert Willoughby who both encouraged her to make meaningful music with every note. Ashley lives in Belmont, MA with her husband and two daughters. Bio: Ann Bobo has been one of the busiest freelance flutists in New England for many years. She performs regularly with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Boston Musica Viva, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and the Springfield Symphony. She has performed with nearly all of the major organizations in the region, most notably the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Chamber Music Society, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Emmanuel Music, and Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Bobo is an avid chamber musician and has been included on the rosters of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, Celebrity Series of Boston, Winsor Music, Carolina Chamber Music Festival, and Radius Ensemble. Ann is on faculty at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and the Rivers School Conservatory.

Bio: Amanda Hughes is a retired Music Director at Clarke Middle School in Lexington, Ma, holding an M.M.E from UMASS Lowell. She obtained her BA in music education from EWU, remaining on the West Coast for many years. There, she was a founding member of the Spokane Flute Society, participating in many SFS educational performances in regional schools. She was often called upon to direct workshops, ran her own studio, and was an active performer in the area. A native of Seattle, WA, her life carried her to various parts of the country, where she took advantage of every opportunity to glean from as many artists as possible. She has participated in Master classes and/or lessons from Keith Underwood, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Carol Wincenc, James Galway, Rhonda Larson, William Bennett, Julius Baker, and many, many, others. Her main instructors include Webb Coffee, (a former student of James Pappoutsakis), and Doug Worthen. Amanda has participated in various flute ensembles, as well as directing her own flute choirs, and small chamber groups. She has played in community orchestras across the country, opera pits, and professionally freelances in the Greater Boston area. She sat as a GBFA board member, writing articles for its monthly publication, has often served as an adjudicator, and is an active member of NAfME, and the NFA. Amanda has been a private flute teacher for over 30 years. As well as running her own thriving studio, she has been on the faculties of The School of Creative Arts in Lexington, Ma, The School of Performing Arts in Kilmarnock, VA, adjunct faculty at EWU in Washington State, and currently, Boston Flute Academy. Although an experienced performer, Amanda’s first love is in teaching flute. Amanda is devoted to providing each student with the tools they need to accomplish their personal goals; to provide inspiration, motivation, and a sense of accomplishment at whatever level they play. She strives to bring each student to his or her highest potential. Her pride lies mainly in the accomplishments of her students, who are frequently found in the ranks of honorable area orchestras and ensembles, such as Boston Youth Orchestra, Junior and Senior Districts, All-State Band/Orchestra, Jr. and Sr. MYWE, Rivers, Concord Players, Tanglewood Summer Program, and have also won prestigious solo competitions. Her personal philosophy is to set a high bar for her students, and expect them to rise to the challenge. She is willing to isolate a student’s major needs, and find ways specific to each student to overcome their weaknesses, and exemplify their strengths. Amanda also believes in working as a team. She believes that no one, flute instructor can develop a student completely. Every student needs to be surrounded by great performers and instructors to learn to develop their art. Bio: Greg Newton is one of New England’s most active musicians, having performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. His performance schedule regularly includes the Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Musica Viva, New Hampshire Symphony, Portland Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Granite State Symphony, Symphony New Hampshire, the Boston Classical Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project. He has also performed with the Bolshoi Ballet Orchestra and the Prague Radio Symphony. Mr. Newton performs regularly in the Boston theater orchestras for many of the Broadway touring companies including the pre Broadway break-in of Tony Award winning The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. In addition to his orchestral duties, Mr. Newton maintains an active chamber music schedule as founding member of the Northwinds Quintet (affiliate with Young Audiences of America). He was also for many years on the Artist Faculty of the Brevard Music Center and currently, he is a faculty member of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. Bio: Kelli O’Connor is principal clarinet of the Vermont and Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestras. Most recently, she was appointed co-principal clarinet of the Orchestra of Indian Hill. She also appears frequently as acting principal clarinet of the New Haven and Springfield Symphony Orchestras. In addition, Kelli performs with the Boston Philharmonic and Hartford Symphony. Bio: Tucker Antell was born in New Hampshire, and raised in Florida, where he began his career at the Bradenton American Legion Jam Sessions. While still in Middle and High School, retirees took him under their wings and taught him the ropes, which was invaluable early experience. “Though I didn’t realize it at the time, the opportunity to play those classic standards every week with veteran musicians was one of the best ways I could have learned to play music and turned out to be one of the most formative and valuable experiences of my early years as a musician.” When it was time to attend college, Tucker studied with various masters including Jerry Bergonzi and George Garzone, before graduating in 2009 from the Jazz Studies program at the New England Conservatory of Music. Bio: A native of Las Vegas, NV, Chris Castellanos has enjoyed a prosperous and eclectic musical career. Bio: Nathaniel Meyer is a trumpeter, teacher and conductor in the Boston area. Nathaniel was the winner of the 2007 National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Competition. He has played with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and Boston Civic Symphony, and as solo trumpet with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston, the Wellesley Symphony, and Symphony Pro Musica. Bio: Nicholas Jemo, a native of Rhode Island, graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Rhode Island. In 2008 he received his Master of Music degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music where he was the recipient of the prestigious Cecil Collins Award for excellence in brass performance. Mr. Jemo holds a position in the orchestra for The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and has also played on the Broadway productions of Les Misérables, Evita, and Mary Poppins. He performs with the New York Philharmonic to audiences in the US and abroad and has played with the Metropolitan Opera, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and frequently performs at Carnegie Hall. In 2016 he performed on the PBS special Live from Lincoln Center: Lang Lang’s New York Rhapsody where he played alongside Lang Lang, Rufus Wainwright and Regina Spektor, among others. More recently, Mr. Jemo performed for the Lincoln Center Theater benefit concert with Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda in 2019. He can also be heard on the first two seasons of the HBO series The Succession. Bio: Jeff Conner is the only original member of Boston Brass. He founded the group with some fellow Boston musicians while a student at Boston University and has engineered the meteoric rise of this ensemble’s fame in the world of popular chamber music. Jeff received his master’s degree in Music from Boston University and his bachelor’s degree in music from Boston Conservatory of Music. Jeff brings over 30 years experience of building and branding the Boston Brass name in the world of chamber music. Bio: Matthew Repucci, a native of Topsfield, MA, holds a BM and MM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Connecticut and the University of Massachusetts. Additional post grad studies include the Pacific Music Festival, Chosen Vale: Center for Advanced Musical Studies, and studies with Benjamin Wright of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, and Swedish trumpet soloist Håkan Hardenberger. As a freelance trumpet player in the Greater Boston area, Mr. Repucci has performed with the Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall, the Esplanade Pops, and recently for the Opening Day Ring Ceremony for the Boston Red Sox and 4th of July Pops with the Portland Symphony. Bio: Bass trombonist Alan Carr is Assistant Chair of Instrumental Studies at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Previously he was Director of Brass Studies and Assistant Professor of Trombone at George Mason University. He is also on faculty at the University of Maine at Augusta and New England Music Camp. Previously, he taught at Bates College and Concordia University Wisconsin. Carr performs actively and has appeared throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He is a member of the American Festival Pops Orchestra and an associate artist with the Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. Carr has performed with the Alabama Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, Hartford Symphony, and Portland Symphony, among others. As a chamber musician, he has performed and recorded with the American Brass Quintet, Barclay Brass, Ensemble Connect of Carnegie Hall, Isthmus Brass Ensemble, and the King’s Brass. He has recorded on the Albany, Naxos, Summit, and Peer 2 record labels. Joey Dies is a versatile Trombone player and instructor based in the Boston Area. Trained classically, Joey received a Bachelors of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Stetson University, learning and performing the major symphonic and solo repertoire for trombone. Following completion of his Bachelor’s Degree, Joey decided to pursue his love of Jazz, attending the New England Conservatory of Music graduating with a Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance. Joey believes that stylistic flexibility is made possible through a strong fundamental foundation on the instrument and he strives to convey this in his lessons. He aims to help students not only improve their skills but also find joy in the process, by encouraging mindful practice and by fostering a strong musical intuition. Joey is actively performing in a wide variety of genres, including jazz, rock, pop, salsa, merengue, and classical. He has performed with such artists as Maria Schneider, Arturo O’Farrill, Dave Holland, Somi Kakoma, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, and Linda Cole. At NEC, Joey studied under Marshall Gilkes of the Maria Schneider Orchestra for both trombone technique and jazz improvisation. His past teachers include Conrad Herwig, Michael Dease, David Schmidt, John McNeil, Frank Carlberg and Jason Palmer.

Bio: Eric Goode is an active freelance tuba player and music educator based in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Goode has performed in elite musical ensembles throughout the Boston area and beyond, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Cape Symphony Orchestra, Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, The Hot Tamale Brass Band, Sarma Brass Band, Dapper Brass, Downtown Boston Brass, and many more large and chamber ensembles. Mr. Goode is an active collaborator in featuring local and upcoming composers. He is currently a member of commissioning projects that aim to introduce new works for the tuba and chamber groups. Some recent commissions and premiers include Passacaglia for brass quintet and Look Up for tuba and piano by Ryan Stees, Quantum Computing is the Elephant in the Bitcoin Vault by Danny Fratina, Core Dogie by Joe Ricard, and The Natural Lands, a suite for tuba quartet by Shawn W. Davern, which won the Winston Morris Award for Excellence in Tuba and Euphonium Composition at the 2019 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Iowa City, Iowa. In addition to his performing experience, Mr. Goode is an active educator, both in a one-on-one setting, as well as in the classroom. He is currently the Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Visiting Lecturer at Salem State University, as well as the Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Milton Academy, Wellesley Public Schools, and Weston Public Schools. Mr. Goode also serves as the Instructor of Winds and Percussion at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, where he coaches middle and high school wind and percussion ensembles as well as develops curriculum for applied winds and percussion. During the summer, Mr. Goode also serves as the Workshop Assistant for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Tuba and Euphonium Workshop. Mr. Goode received his Bachelor of Music degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he studied with Professor Kevin Stees. During his tenure at James Madison University, Mr. Goode launched his performing career domestically and abroad, including a tour of Austria and Germany with the James Madison University Brass Band, and performances at International Tuba Euphonium Association conferences throughout the United States and in Linz, Austria. He received his Master of Music degree in 2017 from Boston University, where he is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts. Bio: Andrew Hitz is an internationally renowned soloist, clinician and speaker having appeared in over 40 states and 30 countries including Japan, Brazil, Russia and Singapore. In 2014, he ended a 14-year tenure as the tuba player for Boston Brass. Andrew has also appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Alarm Will Sound and the Marine Band of Mexico. As an Educational Ambassador for Jupiter Band Instruments, Andrew has presented at over 20 state music educator conferences and taught master classes at some of the finest music schools in the world including Juilliard, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. Andrew is a Professor of Music at Shenandoah University and is proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Mockingbird Foundation, a non-profit which has awarded over $1.2 million in grants to help bring music education to children across the country.

Bio: World renowned composer-performer, Kenneth Amis, enjoys an international career of high acclaim. Mr. Amis began playing the piano at a young age and upon entering high school took up the tuba and developed an interest in performing and writing music. At age sixteen, he enrolled in Boston University where he majored in composition. After graduating from Boston University he attended the New England Conservatory of Music where he received his master’s degree in composition. An active composer, Mr. Amis has received commissions from several institutions and music organizations. He has undertaken residencies with educational institutions ranging from middle schools through the collegiate level and was a founding member and on the Board of Directors for the American Composers Forum New England Chapter. Mr Amis has served as Composer-in-residence at Belmont High School and has fill many commissions for the students of the Chenery Middle School and Belmont High School. As a tuba player, Mr. Amis's performance skills are showcased on many commercial records distributed internationally. He is presently the tuba player of the Empire Brass and the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra and serves on the faculty of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Boston University, Longy School of Music, Lynn University, MIT and the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School.

Bio: Curtis Hartshorn is a music composer, performer, and educator living in Boston, MA who specializes in drumset and percussion. As a high school student Curtis performed 2 seasons with the Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble and later joined the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2010 Curtis earned a Bronze medal with the Corps. In 2012 Curtis earned his Bachelors in Music Performance and Music Business from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, specializing in Percussion under the tutelage of Jeff Fischer, Fred Buda, Mark Wheeler, and James Lattini. Currently Curtis is a member of several local bands whose genre's span rock, jazz, folk, fusion, hip hop, contemporary, and classical. Curtis has also made regular appearances performing for the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.

Bio: Percussionist Staff Sergeant Alexander Garde of Boxborough, Mass., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in March 2022. Staff Sgt. Garde began his musical training on percussion at age 5. After graduating in 2016 from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, he attended the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he earned a bachelor’s of music in 2020. His teachers at the New England Conservatory included Daniel Bauch, Will Hudgins and Matthew McKay. Staff Sgt. Garde also attended the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, where he studied with Matthew Strauss. Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Garde performed at the Round Top Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, and the Atlantic Music Festival. He has performed in the Young Artist Program with DaCamera, a Houston-based chamber music and jazz organization, and was a founding member of Alinéa Ensemble, a contemporary music ensemble in Boston. Staff Sgt. Garde performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
