The BIS Percussion Group is open to any student who would like to explore percussion, whether they are experienced musicians or completely new to playing percussion instruments. The group provides a supportive and engaging environment in which students can develop rhythmic skills, ensemble awareness, and musical confidence.
Students learn to listen closely to one another while performing rhythmic patterns together, maintaining a steady pulse, and responding to dynamic changes in the music. Repertoire is performed on a wide range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments, including marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, shakers, cajón, and timpani.
The percussion group performs at several school concerts throughout the year, giving students valuable experience performing as part of an ensemble.
Rehearsals and Commitment
The Percussion Group rehearses on Thursday mornings from 7:30–8:30 am, beginning in Term 1 and ending after whichever concert will be the last of the year.
Students may join at any point during the year; however, once enrolled, they are expected to commit to the group and participate in all rehearsals and performances.
Students interested in joining should contact Ms Helene Piper at hpiper@belmontint.school.nz.
