Welcome to the BIS Bands

BIS offers contemporary band opportunities for both Year 7 and Year 8 students. Band membership begins with auditions in Year 7. Once accepted, students may remain in the programme for up to two years. If a student chooses to leave a band, their place becomes available to another student through audition or a waiting list.

Rehearsals
Bands rehearse during Terms 1, 2, and 3, leading up to the school disco.

Expectations
Band members are expected to learn all individual parts outside of rehearsal time. This includes instrumental parts, beats, chords, melodies, and lyrics, either independently at home or with the support of their instrumental teacher.

Rehearsal time at school is focused on ensemble work: bringing parts together, refining arrangements, developing musical expression, and adding performance elements such as movement and choreography.

Performances
Bands perform at two major live events each year: BandQuest, the nationwide Rockshop band competition, and the BIS school disco. Following these performances, the band programme concludes for the year with a celebration of the students’ work and achievements.
