Welcome to our Virtual Open House! This site will showcase our students' accomplishments over the next few months. New projects will be uploaded as our "Missions" conclude, providing a peek into our daily virtual lives as remote learning continues at BHS. Whether you are a current student, parent, prospective students, and their families, or member of the community who would like to know more about what we are doing, feel free to navigate our page!
Why Missions and What are they?
All BHS levels-- Freshman, Sophomore, Juniors, and Seniors --have been assigned "Missions" for the Second Semester of 2020-21. There will be approximately 5 different Missions per level starting in January.
Teachers act a "Guide-on-the-Side," to the students assigned to their Mentoring groups which meet each afternoon. Mentors give guidance on project submissions and keep students on track for the various deadlines. Formative and summative assessments are included in mission rubrics.
Acting as a network of innovators, students and teachers become "Game Changers" who have catalyzed our learning this semester to focus on core subjects and a dedicated emphasis on core skills of initiative, collaboration, and perseverance. While our mission is to educate the next generation of difference-makers, our teachers also prepare students by equipping them with practical and personal transferable skills. BHS Students are working in partnership with their teachers to complete missions that will develop mindsets and skills for college, career, and life —reinforcing the values of ethical people: treating others well and standing up for what is right.
Ultimately, our graduates will become critically engaged in their local communities and the global society as they apply the knowledge and skills learned to other challenges inside and outside school.
After all, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" -- W.B. Yeats
Belize High School's Goals
To be a vehicle of professional values and behaviours that provide opportunities for achieving outstanding educational excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Athletics, and Mathematics.
Philosophy
We believe in the total education of each student, in keeping with his/her dignity as a human person and in accordance with individual talents and abilities. For this reason, we provide a well-balanced, sequential curriculum that recognizes individual differences and remains fully aware of the various stages of adolescent growth and maturity.
We acknowledge the responsibility delegated to us by the parents/guardians of our students, working together with families so BHS to help students realize their potential, and embrace lives filled with freedom, joy, and service to others.
Through an educational program which takes into account all of the aspects of the human person-- physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and moral-- we equip students with the skills needed to think critically about the issues and problems of our society, to make decisions consistent with correct moral and ethical conduct, and to become positive contributors and future leaders in Belize and beyond.
