That New Truck Smell

The BEC-TV Production truck got a HUGE overhaul this summer as we switched over to Hi Def.

The move into HD was both complex and costly. 95% of the equipment in the truck had to be upgraded at a cost of about a quarter of a million bucks. (As with all of BEC's operation, this was covered buy grants and funds we generate ourselves)

Our new cameras will be run on fiber optic cables and our audio system will be all digital.

The first TestShoot with the new gear was in our own back yard covering the BEC-TV Olympics and the first REAL workout will be the season's first football game on August 31.

The Brains Behind It All

Super-De-Duper thanks to BEC-TV Staff engineers Brandon McKenzie and Brian Pfeiffer who have been heading up the whole operation and who've worked 7 days a week for much of the summer to get us ready to roll. Both these guys grew up at BEC and now work full time in other jobs in the biz. The amount of planning, engineering, budgeting, thinking outside the box, and sweat that's gone into the truck has been HUGE. These guys never cease to amaze.

A Intergenerational Team Effort

Nearly everyone else in the biz who has a truck like ours contracts a company to do all the work. Here at BEC we have a tradition of doing it all ourselves. Design, cable creation, installation, programming, cabinet making... on, and on, it all comes from our folks. We had a team of over 20 students, parents, and broadcast pro's volunteering their time to pull it all together. From newbie 12 year olds to seasoned pro's - we had the whole gamut.

We love that we've got multiple generations of BEC people who come together for projects like this. One example: Brian Faas, dad of techs Evan & Noah, was a volunteer 30 years ago. Brian now travels across the country engineering in the big trucks that cover professional sports. As a student, he helped build our first production vehicle, and has helped with each one since.
