The results are in: BEC-TV's first ever Kick-Off Day was a HUGE success! We had great attendance from newbies and returning techs. Everyone had a great time learning, eating, getting to know each other and BEC staff, and both participating in - AND shooting - the BEC-TV Olympics!
Kickoff Day -- By the Numbers:
35 Students attending, Grade 7-13
11 hours of fun, learning, and team building
5 different teams of tech who got to know each other while learning and having fun
10 Different hands-on skills workshops
13 Eggs smashed in the SteadiCam Scramble competition in the BEC Olympics
32 parents attending the 2 hour Meet & Eat at the end of our day
115 collective years of experience by the BEC Staff who facilitated the day
0 times MurphyDog thew-up after eating a few sandwiches, leftover pizza, and a lot of the busted eggs
5 Kids who said - unsolicited - Can we do this EVERY YEAR???
Techs learn skills such as:
- Camera/Tripod setup
- Camera/Lens Controls
- ENG (Handheld) cam, and Grip
- Graphics (GenCG, tSOC-Box)
- ZEPLAY replays
- Radio/Intercom & Communication Basics
- Audio Basics
- Cable Handling
- Camera Movement & Framing
Special Thanks:
- All the experienced techs who took leadership roles and helped mentor the new kids
- BEC Staff who helped in all the prep and took vacation days from their Day Jobs to spend the day (and night) with us
- Amy Bustos (Colin's Mom) who donated a big ol' bag-full delicious of Droolin' Moose candy (We made need to rename that stuff "Droolin' Tech")
- BEC Tech Emmaline Tarnowski, who went super-crazy over and above to help us prep (Em volunteered over 150 hours in 3 weeks!)
