August 23, 2017
At the August 15, 2017 Kickoff, BEC-TV unveiled a NEW way to sign up for shoots called "Track It Forward". That lasted something under a week. Yeah... Sorry.
The good news is we cracked the code to use what we wanted to in the first place. We're optimizing good ol' Google Calendar.
The BEC-TV Shoots Calendar!
If you've been around for quite some time, this'll look familiar to you as we've been using it for a long time now. However, there are a couple new features that are making it work for us like never before!
1) Access from your BPS Hub
2) RSVP for Shoots
You will now be able to RSVP from inside Google Calendar to each shoot. This will also let you set reminders, and let parents set reminders!
It also lets us, the staff at BEC-TV, know who has said yes or no to all shoots.
***ACTION IS REQUIRED FOR EVERY EVENT ON THE CALENDAR.
PLEASE RESPOND TO ALL EVENTS AT LEAST 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE***
This is especially crucial to us so we know who to expect and who not to expect to each event!
This new and extremely fresh method to us all helps track your shoots and hours to be able to advance through the ranks.
The big pros of this? Simple!
Another big pro? Points! For each shoot you sign up, you earn points towards rank advancement. Even if your response is a "no", you'll earn some form of points, but please please please let us know at least 48 hours before the actual shoot, yes or no! A non-answer tells us that you are not looking at your calendar or that you don't care. Those are both icky. And you don't wanna do Icky, right?
There is No "Try"
Google calendar allows you to respond with "Maybe" as well. Resist the urge to go with the Mushy Middle. Commit to do a shoot. Or decide that you can't and let us know. We'll still love you. Really. "Maybe" should only be used if you've really got something legit that is still in the air. Not some namby-pamby thing like, " Well golly, I may need to take my gerbil for a walk that day but I won't know till I read his horoscope that day after school".
"I'll Try" didn't fly for Luke Skywalker. Neither shall it for you!
Seasonal Tech Teams
In the past most shoots were crewed by a bunch of individual techs who signed up shoot-by-shoot. Now we're moving to a model where most shoots are covered primarily by the Team assigned for that sport or day-of-the-week.
We know that not everyone can commit to a team for an entire semester, so we're trying to leave a couple crew slots open for "free-lance" techs. But really - If you want the best experience at BEC, get yourself onto a Tech Team or two.
Once you've been assigned to a Tech Team, please go through your calendar and RSVP for all the shoot that team is slated to produce. We can't add you in from our end, sorry.
How Do I know if I'm "On"?
If you Sign up (RSVP) for a shoot, you can assume you are on the crew UNLESS we get back to you to let you know otherwise.
If you Commit, Be There!
Really. This is a big deal. If you tell us you'll be at a shoot, we're planning on your being there. How and when we set up, what staff we have on site, and who else we allow to sign up are determined by our knowing who will be on the crew. Set your calendar to send reminders to you and your parents. If there is an emergency and you need to cancel, call to let us know. And hey - This "commitment" thing isn't just for BEC-TV. It's a "Life" thing. When people know they can depend on you, you'll go far!
I'm not seeing much on that calendar just now!
Right. We're still working on locking in our production calendar for the year. Each school year we usually have between 100 and 150 productions we use student crews for. Keep an eye on the calendar. We'll give you a heads-up if we add things with short notice.
