“We have made huge strides ... but we have not reached nirvana. There's still rampant discrimination on the basis of race, gender. It's true that most of the explicit classifications — men are treated this way, women that way — are gone from the law books. But what remains is what has been called unconscious bias.”
— Ruth Bader Ginsburg
The Four Pillars of JAGS
I whole-heartdly believe that my decision to join the Jackson Academy for Global Studies has shaped me to be the person that I am today. If it wasnt for the inspiering student leaders that have come bef0re me, I never would have developed such a passion for leadership and inspiering those who will come after me. The academy has introduced me to some of my best and closest friends, JAGS has an amazing group of smart, intellegent people- ready to make a mark on the world. But I think the thing that had the biggest influence on me was my teachers. Mr. Marlett from freshman year JAGS History class once told me that I should become a lawyer, and since then that has been one of my many goals in life. Ms. Arter, from Sophomore year JAGS Chemistry always had one of the most heart-warming personalities and is one of the nicest and easiest of people to talk to. And then of course, Ms. Stone, she has always been such a huge inspertation to me- she will always voice her opinions and fight for what she thinks is right, and that to me is a true leader. I hope that all students who have the opportunity to cross her path should be greatful to hear what such an insightful and intellegant person she is.
