Drawing 1 Artifact

This was the first time that I had ever used charcoal pencils, I really enjoyed using this media to create my piece and was impressed with how it had turned out. I found the charcoal a little difficult to use as it is pretty messy and it is hard to get detailed with the pencils and it smudges very easily. I learnt how to blend both black and white charcoal together to create the accurate shadows and create a gradient to make the image seem accurate and realistic. Since I created this piece, I have used charcoal many more times and my skill in using this media has improved over time. I can better use the charcoal pencils to outline details and manage the smudging. I have learnt how to create highlights and shadows by just using black charcoal and an eraser and I can make my art come across more realistic and effective.
