Year Four

Lullingstone Roman Villa

In Year 4, Geography has been linked to our Inquiry learning and to other National Curriculum subjects, such as History and MFL (Spanish). When we explored the impact of migration, we used our knowledge of Roman migration to chart their journey to the UK (which utilised a range of map skills). We have also explored different types of settlements, drawn sketches of such settlements and explored varying countries in detail to make comparisons and to learn about climate and population. We have done lots of work on using four-figure grid references, which helped us greatly when we studied position and direction using coordinates in Maths.

We are always so impressed by the children's research skills, which the children employ to great effect when researching other countries and developing our geographical knowledge and skills. Below is a sample of some of the work we have completed this year.

Dragonball

On 3rd July 2023, a group of Year 4 children represented Bearsted Primary Academy at its first sporting event: Dragonball! The children had a fantastic time and represented the school wonderfully. We were all so proud of their determination, their drive and their incredible sportsmanship towards the other schools. Our children were always the first to shake hands following a game and they were both gracious winners and losers. Even though the event was a chance for the children to have fun and learn a new game, we were blown away with their performance:

Game 1 - Won (3-1)

Game 2 - Loss (1-3) - This was an all-Year 6 team!

Game 3 - Win (4-1)

Game 4 - Draw (2-2)

Game 5 - Win (3-2)

Well done Team Bearsted!
