It has been an exceptionally busy, and productive week in Year 6, which has been marked by a fantastic display of character during our Mock SATs. While testing is a routine part of Year 6, the children’s resilient and principled approach to these assessments was truly impressive. It has been a pleasure to see their hard work translate into such positive progress in their results.
In our writing sessions, the pupils have been channelling their inner authors by crafting narrative versions of the opening "arena" sequence from The Hunger Games. By carefully selecting atmospheric vocabulary and experimenting with punctuation, they’ve created some incredibly tense and exciting pieces of writing that really brought the story to life.
In our humanities lessons, we’ve been exploring the complex relationship between governance and migration, comparing how the UK and the USA approach these global issues. To deepen our understanding, we used the key concepts to analyse news headlines from across the political spectrum on both sides of the Atlantic. The children did a brilliant job identifying how specific word choices can reveal a newspaper’s bias or perspective. I was particularly proud of how open-minded and balanced the pupils were throughout; they shared their own views thoughtfully while remaining respectful of different perspectives.
