The BCS Digital Learning Department is thrilled to share our monthly calendar! Feel free to use these resources in your classroom as a way to celebrate the various days featured on this calendar.

Please log in to Clever before accessing any of the linked calendar resources below, and always be sure to preview resources before utilizing them in your educational setting.

Each month, the BCS Digital Learning Team will highlight a Tech-Tip that we find to be especially valuable and practical.

This month, the team has chosen "Classwize Troubleshooting."

Knowing how to troubleshoot when you do not see student activity in Classwize is a helpful skill!

Reflect

Let's reflect on current practices in our school communities, including our amazing library spaces!

An Annual Treat, Not Trick: Lincoln's Book Character Pumpkin Contest

with Natalie Caddell, Lincoln Elementary Media Coordinator

Pumpkins line the tops of bookshelves for Lincoln's Annual Book Character Pumpkin Contest.

Lincoln Elementary School's Annual Book Character Pumpkin Contest is always an exciting tradition!  Classes pick a book to read and then decorate a pumpkin like their favorite character from the book.  This year, the Leland Area Rotary club helped secure a donation of 41 pumpkins from the local Piggly Wiggly so that classes that wanted to participate could.  The Leland Area Rotary Club also purchased books from our Fall Scholastic Book Fair to give as prizes to winners!

Many pumpkins were submitted for the competition at Lincoln Elementary.

Pumpkins were submitted to the library by noon on Monday, October 23rd, and voting began that same day.  Anyone and everyone could vote for the favorite book character pumpkins using a Google Form vote until voting closed on Friday, October 27th at midnight!  Prizes were awarded to winners on October 31st!

The winners were announced on Tuesday, October 31st.

We love making reading fun and engaging at Lincoln!  Our next big literacy event will be in December with our Festival of Literary Trees which is a similar concept in which classes pick a book to read and decorate a pre-lit miniature tree to go with the book!

Copyright Corner

I need access to ____________ (insert Learning A-Z, Discovery Education, etc.) subscription resource for my kids and the elementary - or another school - has it. Why can't you just add me?

BCS has worked diligently over the last several years to ensure that we are appropriately licensed.  It is only fair to our vendor partners and it models ethical behavior.  Clever has been integral in this process.  Clever allows us to target specific schools, grade levels, subjects or students/teachers with access to specific apps.

For the most part, subscriptions are purchased for specific grade levels or buildings.  For example, BrainPOP Jr is only purchased and licensed for our elementary buildings.  Adding teachers outside of those buildings would cause our licensing to be out of compliance.  While we want every teacher to have access to the resources they need, we also have to maximize our expenditures and target resources to the appropriate grade levels and students.  Some subscriptions are licensed by the specific number of teachers.  Allowing teachers outside of the core need group access changes licensing distribution.
