Reflect
Let's reflect on current practices in our school communities, including our amazing library spaces!
The Library Spotlight: Bringing Together the Past and Present
Allison Gale, Leland Middle School Media Coordinator
On September 19, select students of LMS enjoyed their lunches while viewing Queen Elizabeth the Second final royal ceremonies in the library. Students could use their Tiger Tickets to purchase hot chocolate or tea. There were special displays of books about princesses and royalty and books about other famous women named Elizabeth.
This event was part of an effort to connect students with global current events, exposing them to other culture's social, political, and religious customs, and allowing students to feel connected in real time to others around the world.
Students enjoyed it so much that LMS will host another Royal Reading Day for the Coronation.

Several things come into play here.
Terms of Service: Your Netflix account Terms of Service state that the account is for your personal, entertainment use. Your classroom is neither personal nor entertainment. The same goes for all other streaming accounts.
Certain Netflix Original documentaries have been deemed for educational use, HOWEVER, there is no way to filter these from the rest of the Netflix content.
Movies used in the classroom must meet Fair Use guidelines. In order to meet these, the movie must be tied directly to a content standard (no showing movies for rewards or holidays). In addition, they must be acquired legally and preferably from a vendor with licensing rights for viewing.
We have a form that should be completed and then signed by your school administrator when showing any movie. See your media coordinator for more information.
