Artist Spotlight
Isamu Noguchi was a famous Japanese American Sculptor, Designer, and Landscape Architect. He started his life between two worlds, and became a global artist, creating sculpture parks around the world and Akari light fixtures, tables, and objects that continue to find their way into the homes of consumers and influence interior design.
One of Noguchi's early long lasting dreams was to build a park for children. He realized his dream in the Moerenuma Koen (Sculpture Park) where he erected a park that once occupied a land fill. Now travelers from near and far can spend an afternoon climbing his structures, rent a bike to ride around from zone to zone, and take in a park that merges a beautiful natural surrounding with the delight of simple lines and color.
Moerenuma Koen is located in snowy Sapporo, Japan, an international hub. Visit in early fall and see breathtaking views of Japanese maples against crisp vanilla skies.
You don't have to travel as far as Japan to see one of Isamu Noguchi's sculptures. You can see his work from New York to Detroit.
Pictured below is Noguchi's Phillip A. Hart Plaza water fountain in Detroit. Don't you wish you had this kind of water pressure at home?
