According to Board of School Commissioners' Policy IKA-RA Grading and Reporting Regulation, "In Kindergarten through grade 12, students in Math, English/ English Language Arts (“ELA”), Science, Social Studies, and Career and Technical Education courses should receive at least one graded assignment per week. An exception to the weekly grade entry requirement is where the class’s primary assignment takes more than one week to complete. Absent extenuating circumstances, teachers in these subjects should keep gradebooks current, update them at a minimum of once per week, and post at least nine grades per marking period. Teachers of other content areas should follow guidance produced by content leads in the Academics Office.
Schools that elect to have their own school-based grading guidelines may require that students receive more than one graded assignment per week, as set forth in Section II.F. below. Schools must ensure alignment on graded assignment minimum requirements at the grade level (in non-departmentalized grades 2-5) and at the content level (in departmentalized grades 2-5 and grades 6-12)."
Each school is responsible for providing guidance around categories, category weights and gradebook requirements for teachers.
Students and parents can see all grading through the parent and student portals. They will see real-time, In Progress grades. This is a great help in making sure that our parents are partnering with us to ensure that students are working and growing. It allows students to manage their own learning and to be accountable on a daily basis.
