**Important Update**

For foreigners staying in Thailand for a period longer than 90 consecutive days holding a Non-Immigrant Visa or Extension of Stay, you are required by Thai Immigration to report the present address every 90 days. It is that we call “90-day reporting”.
As a general rule, the foreigner must file this report within 15 days before, or within 7 days after, your 90-day period expires. The reporting can be done in person or online.
Failure to report in this time period will result in a fine up to 2000 Baht and a black stamp put in your passport
90-Day reporting at immigration is usually fast process and should take no more than 30 minutes.
You must fill in the TM47 form which you can either print here, fill in at immigration office, or see Heather for a printed copy
What you must bring:
Original Passport
Photocopies of the relevant pages on your passport:
Your personal information
The latest entry stamp
A copy of your previous 90-day slip (if you had one)
Note if it is either your first 90 day report, you left the country, or you did a 90 day report in another province you MUST do the report in person first. But the next reports you are eligible to do online.
To report online just register here
Once you have registered you can select "New Application" and fill out the form
Once submitted you will eventually receive an email saying whether or not your report has been approved
If it is approved you will see an attachment for the "next appointment" slip. Print this and staple it in your passport.
This would be needed if you go to immigration for Visa extensions or in person 90-day reports
(I personally have forgotten to print and they were still able to look up the record at immigration, but better to have a hard copy just in case)
Once you get your 1 year visa you must apply for a Re-Entry Permit at immigration before you leave the country.
The Re-Entry Permit for Thailand allows visa-holders who were issued a single-entry visa to leave the country and be able to re-enter without the visa becoming void. If you do not get a re-entry permit before you exit Thailand, then you will have to re-apply for a visa from a Thai Embassy or Consulate to be allowed to enter.
**From March 9th 2023: This is only available at the immigration office by airport **
When applying for a re-entry permit you will need to submit the following:
A completed TM-8 Form
The correct fee
Passport photo (4cm x 6cm)
TM 30
Photocopy of passport (main page and latest entry stamp)
Single-Entry - 1900
Multiple-Entry - 3800
Photocopies
If you are at Chiang Mai immigration by the airport there is a photocopy desk there where you can say what you need copies for and they will know what pages in your documents you will need copied. This just costs a couple of baht per page.
Passport photos
You can get photos taken at any photo shop around Chiang Mai and often there are stalls at a mall that do photos.
One option is at the LPG gas station right across the street from the Immigration Office by the airport
If you're absolutely not in a hurry or you can plan well ahead, you can get a Residence Certificate for 60 Baht, following these steps below. The only thing you need is time to wait and time to queue up.
A Residence Certificate can be obtained from the Immigration office at the airport. The approximate waiting time varies greatly, depending on the work load, but as a rough average it usually takes 3 weeks (when it's very busy, it can take a staggering 5 weeks!). You need to apply for this between 8:30 - 12:00 am, outside of these hours Immigration does not take in any requests for this and when it's busy there is a queue. The counter for this is on the 2nd floor of the building. Walk inside the building and go to the right or enter the building from the side entrance on the right where you find the staircases and go up 1 floor.
What to bring?
Proof of address: This must be a rental agreement of a condominium, a house, or a serviced apartment for a minimum of 3 months. Most of the time, a shorter term booking at a hotel is not accepted. If you own a property, bring the title deed (chanod). This may not be needed now but it is good to bring if you have it just in case!
Orginal passport and copies of relevant pages (photo page, visa page, entry stamp).
If you didn't make copies before you came, there is a copy shop outside in the southeast corner of the complex, outside of the main building (costs of copying double that of a normal shop in town).
NOTE: there need to be at least 30 days left on your current visa
1 Passport-sized photo for each copy you want (4x6 with white background).
If you need 2 copies for both a Thai car and a bike license then you will need 2 photos.
Copy of TM.30 slip which is the proof that your landlord has reported your stay.
You cannot get a residency certificate without this. TM30 reporting has also moved online so a printout of the digital report is also sufficient if you dont have the actual slip.
Bring 1 copy of all these documents.
If you need 2 residence certificates at the same time, for example one for renewing your driving license and one for buying a new vehicle, you only need to bring one set of copies but 2 passport photos.
The residency certificate will be mailed to you, so just sit back and relax and hope it doesn't get lost in the mail!
Tell the immigration office once you hand in your documents that you need it tomorrow and they will ask for 500 Baht and you can pick it up the next day (Pickup from 8:30am - 12pm)
