Clearly identify your goal - what do you hope to achieve from this networking interaction?
Are you looking to understand more about an industry, functional area or role?
Or are you looking to secure an advocate for an internship/job you are applying to?
Keep in mind that in addition to the alumni, you also have access to peer advisors, industry coaches and CSOM seniors who can provide you insights to these questions
Prepare questions in advance
What answers do you want to come away with, really? Work backwards by putting together solid questions.

Have your elevator pitch ready
After reflecting on your skills, experiences and strengths, prepare a brief 30-45 second pitch that you can use to introduce yourself to the alumni – it’ll give them an idea of what you’re hoping to do career wise and how they can help you!
If you’re still exploring possible careers, that’s ok! You can share this as part of your pitch, but be sure to highlight what your interests are both academically and outside of the classroom
Networking is one of the most important parts of the job search, no matter what field you're interested in pursuing. Alumni can be great contacts! Don't forget to search Eagle Exchange and LinkedIn for more alumni contacts.
