Housing Families – Tutoring

Housing Families is a non-profit organization in Malden, MA that works to end family homelessness. Their GREAT Youth and Families Program (GYFP) is looking for volunteers to tutor children from low-income families.


When: *1 hour sessions

Monday - 3:00-6:00 (PreK - 4th Grade)

Tuesday - 3:00-6:00 (5th - 12th Grade)

Wednesday - 3:00-6:00 (All Ages)

Thursday - 3:00-7:30 (5th - 12th Grade)

Friday - 3:00-5:00 (PreK - 4th Grade)

Boston Covid tutoring

If you are interested in teaching, mentoring, and leadership, Boston COVID-Tutoring is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

Cradles to Crayons

Cradles to Crayons is an organization centered around helping children from birth to age twelve in low-income situations with the essential items needed for success. With headquarters in Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia, the Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) is a wonderful way to get involved with the local community! The TLC offers opportunities to focus on leadership skills and effective fundraising methods, serve as C2C ambassadors, host a product collection or fundraiser, and receive 15 to 25 hours of community service. There are three sessions each year in the spring, summer, and fall. Apply to the Teen Leadership Corps with this link.


There are also times to volunteer at The Giving Factory without joining the TLC! An adult is needed, but you can register and fill out the form with this link. Someone from Cradles to Crayons will email you with available times to volunteer.

Hours: Daily hours are 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Greater boston food bank

If you are interested in participating in an in person service opportunity that complies with social distancing and public health guidelines, sorting and packaging food donations to be sent to local homeless shelters, the Greater Boston Food Bank is perfect for you!

How to get involved:

  1. Join their mailing list and create a portal to track your hours and find available shifts on their website

  2. Register for a shift (either individually, with a friend, or with a group)

  3. Show up to your shift (usually around 3 hours) at 70 S Bay Ave, Boston, MA 02118


Note: Please keep in mind that in-person opportunities outside of BB&N might present a higher risk. Refer to public health guidelines and follow all necessary precautions.

Massachusetts Audubon Society

Mass Audubon's mission is to help conserve New England’s wildlife. Examples of projects include harvesting crops, clearing invasive plant species, and working with animals. https://www.massaudubon.org/


How to Sign up to Volunteer for Mass Audubon:

  1. Visit the “Get Involved” section of Mass Audubon's website

  2. Press the “Volunteer” button

  3. Press the “Volunteer Opportunities” button

  4. On the “Volunteer Opportunities” page, press the text which says, “see a list of all current opportunities.”

    1. That will take you to a page detailing the various locations and opportunities where you can get involved as well as who to contact for each opportunity.

Letters against isolation

If you are interested in writing and working with the elderly, Letters Against Isolation is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

How to get involved:

  1. Go to https://www.lettersagainstisolation.com and fill out the “get involved” form.

  2. Write and decorate letters/cards for senior citizens in assisted living/ nursing homes.

  3. Choose an address on the spreadsheet that you are sent to mail your letters to.

  4. Log your hours on x2vol; 4 letters/cards = 1 hour of service

Seams of hope

If you enjoy arts and crafts and helping children fighting cancer around the world, then this is the opportunity for you! With Seams of Hope you can also help assemble and ship care packages and deliver local care packages.
