Lower school

OVERVIEW

Service Learning at the Lower School happens in and outside of the classroom, with a focus on linking direct action to topics and skills students encounter in their curriculum.

Past examples include Grade 1 hosting a yearly mitten drive for the Hilderbrand Family Center, Grade 3 holding a drive for Cradles to Crayons in the context of learning to be community leaders, and Rainbow Club organizing a bake sale to support LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness, in partnership with Y2Y.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in One World Club, a group leading service initiatives on campus, such as the Have-a-Heart Food Drive and Walk for Hunger.

Finally, the LS organizes a yearly day of service where students participate in activities on and off campus to learn more about and help the communities around them.
