Field Placement & Licensure Office

CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME!

You've successfully started your path to practicum and licensure endorsement!  It is our hope that this site will provide with helpful information as you take your MTELs, progress towards practicum, and seek endorsement at the end of your program.

Initial licensure and professional licensure candidates alike will find useful information on this site. Best of luck as you cross that finish line!

Early in your Initial Licensure Program

As soon as you’ve enrolled in your program, go to MA Education Security Portal. Click on Create New ELAR Account . Through  ELAR, you can check MTEL test results, check license status, and upload documents, and more.

How to Set Up Your ELAR account

You are required to set up an ELAR account through MA DESE at the start of your program. Through this process, you will get a unique, 8-digit Massachusetts Education Personnel ID (MEPID) number. Bay Path University will ask you for this number at the start of your practicum. Please keep it handy when completing your practicum forms. Your MEPID number is used to endorse you for a license at program completion, and the only way for you to register for MTELs.

Through ELAR you can:

To set up a profile, go to the MA DESE website secure portal and click "Create ELAR Profile." Find your MEPID near the top left of your ELAR profile page. Note: if a number is not generated automatically, try selecting to edit your contact information and then immediately hit "save."

During your Initial Licensure Program

Complete all required coursework and Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTELs).

Successful completion of EDU 348 or SPE 548 is required of all initial licensure candidates in order to be endorsed for SEI.  If you have been previously endorsed, and would like to replace this course with another, you are required to submit proof to your advisor and then you'll be approved to take another elective in it's place. This is done at the time of application to the program.

Use the MTEL Score Reporting Calendars to guide you in your testing date plans. New calendars are issued each year. 2024-2025 is below.

At the end of your Initial Licensure Practicum

All practicum students will complete and submit an E-binder.  You will receive e-binder training from the Field Placement Office prior to the start of Practicum.  If at any point you need 1:1 help with the Field Placement Office, contact the Licensure Coordinator, Elizabeth Jones, eljones@baypath.edu

About a month prior to the end of your program, you will complete the Bay Path University application for initial licensure. Additionally, apply for your license and pay application fee online through ELAR.

Initial license candidates must apply for the Sheltered English Immersion endorsement (SEI) through your ELAR account at the same time they apply for their teaching license. If you have been previously endorsed by your district, or another path, you are required to submit proof of endorsement with your BPU Licensure application.

More information on the endorsement process can be found on the Endorsement page.

At the end of your Professional Licensure Program (no practicum requirement)

All professional licensure students will receive an endorsement e-folder at the end of their program. You will receive a confirmation email from the Coordinator of the Field placement and/or your program advisor.

At such time, you will be provided the link to your e-folder as well as directions for applying for professional licensure. You will need to apply for professional endorsement through the University as well as apply for your license and pay the additional license fee online through ELAR.

More information on the endorsement process can be found on the Endorsement page.
