The wood was donated by ________ from the Barberton Library and is oak shelving. We also got a donation from Mr. Tim Porter from the Barberton Street Department which is the post used to support the plaque. Big thank you to both the library and Mr. Tim Porter!! And a special shout out to Mr. Farren and his Woods One class for helping us throughout the entire process!!
This machine is used to smooth and level the board to a flat surface and to a consistent thickness.
This machine is used to flatten and smooth the board and to square the edges of the board which prepares it for the table saw.
Table saws cut the board along a fence. A fence is used to make sure the board stays straight which will improve the cut. The table saw can be crosscutted and ripped but mainly ripped which means how you cut your board. With the table saw we cut the wood to its desired width.
A miter saw makes precision cuts at multiple angles and we only cut at crosscuts which means we cut against the grain of the wood. For our project, we cut at a 90-degree angle to our desired length.
We used the hand sander to smooth the surface of the board we also used it to prepare the board for the finish.
This finish will protect the wood from outside weathers and give the wood a nice shine.
