Some of the most common types of Coral Bells are the Can Can, Citronelle, Delta Dawn, Ebony and Ivory, Green Spice, Lime Marmalade, Midnight Rose, Obsidian, Rave On, Peppermint Spice, Silver Scrolls, Tangerine Wave, Thomas, Timeless Series, and Wildberry. The root is harvested in the fall and is often used for decoration.
Healing Corals
Coral Bells have been known to be used on internal and external wounds. They can be used in the treatment of cancer, and as an external remedy for sores, wounds, and ulcers. These plants can be dried up and ground into a fine powder that is then sprinkled on a wound. It should be known that too much of this remedy can lead to irritation in the stomach and kidney/liver failure. But don't fear if your child or dog gets into this plant. Every part of the Heuchera is safe for consumption in small doses.
Keep Them Alive!
Coral Bells are perennial. They flourish in warm weather but can survive in the cold. Most species will do fine in 45-degree weather and above. Coral Bells prefer slight shade and moist soil. When it gets into the lower temperatures the plant goes dormant. If you live in an extremely cold environment mulch will help your Coral Bells. These beautiful plants can get anywhere between 6-16 inches tall and 12-36 inches wide.
