CELEBRATING THE HISTORY OF OUR BEAUTIFUL SEAS
Inspired by the story of Barako 77, Atelier 818 Fine Jewelry, with roots in Batangas, joins Barako Publishing in supporting and celebrating its successful environmental activism and preservation of one of the most beautiful marine sanctuaries in the world – the Verde Island Passage.
To commemorate such a feat, Atelier 818 gathered its artisans to share Barako 77’s story of resistance and victory. Being a trusted custodian of the Serumgard-Escudero family’s heirloom jewelry, Atelier818 and its artisans worked with the Serumgard-Marasigan family to bring new life to its historical treasures.
Repurposing their heirloom pearls, gemstones, vintage medallions and gold coins, our collection will have everything to do with sea life – gold coral shaped earrings, splashes of blue and green, drops of pearls, and fluid lines and waves. Weaving in old materials into Atelier818’s signature contemporary silhouettes, we want to give these old treasures a renewed sense of art appreciation. In a way signifying San Juan THEN and NOW, and how it has survived the times to be the shining gem that it is now.
Atelier 818's tribute to Barako 77 signifies San Juan's rich, bountiful seas THEN and NOW. This is a story of preservation and evolution. The jewelry house's artisans worked together to bring new life to its historical treasures.
(Arhae)
An ornament that symbolizes luck and prosperity, the aras is popularly used in Filipino weddings, usually with thirteen coins inside.
Loose vintage coins were repolished, replated, and repurposed with a belcher chain to make a more modern, wearable form of jewelry.
(Sanctuary. Home. A tourist spot.)
Coral reefs provide home to a large variety of marine life. And corals are its building blocks.
SANTUARYO earrings tell a story of resilience-
Fashioned from silver and plated in gold, these coral inspired earrings are intentionally mismatched, and versatile enough to be used as an ear cuff, a single dangler, a single statement piece.
(Shoreline. Where the sea kisses land.)
DALAMPASIGAN is not just a shoreline, but a timeline. It's a story of the passage of time. The ebb and flow of the tides. And how over time, treasures are created.
