ARRIVAL
Buses will drop students off at the front of the building. Please do not pull into the bus lane to drop off your child.
Parents dropping students off must use parking areas or side streets. Use extra caution in these areas.
School doors open at 8:15 AM and remain open until the tardy bell at 8:25 AM.
The playground will be supervised by a staff member from 7:50 AM to 8:15 AM.
Students may enter through the main doors or the doors nearest the playground. A staff member will be present to greet them.
If your child arrives after the tardy bell, they must enter through the Main Entry and check in at the office.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast is served in the main district cafeteria, located across the street from the middle school. Doors open at 7:50 AM.
Bus riders will stop at the district cafeteria if they want breakfast. If not, they will stay on the bus and continue to Ocean Crest.
A school staff member will be present at breakfast and will ride with the students back to Ocean Crest to arrive before the 8:25 AM tardy bell.
Breakfast is FREE to all students.
LUNCH
Students may bring lunch from home or receive a hot lunch from school.
Hot lunch is FREE to all students.
DISMISSAL
If your child’s dismissal plan changes, please contact the school office by 2:00 PM that day.
Bus riders will be dismissed first and escorted to the buses by staff.
Walkers and parent pick-ups will be dismissed after all buses have departed.
Parent pickup will occur in the bus lane once buses have left. If you arrive before 3:13 PM, please park in the lot.
Please use extra caution if picking up students in front of the school, on side streets, or in the parking area.
Students not picked up in a timely manner will be taken to the office to call home.
If you need to remove your child from a bus after boarding, do not go directly to the bus. Please go to the office, and staff will call your student to meet you.
The back parking area is reserved for staff and those with handicapped placards.
VOLUNTEERS
We welcome volunteers at Ocean Crest! All volunteers must complete a Criminal History Verification Application and pay a $5 fee.

Classroom teachers will communicate with families to set up volunteer schedules.
FAMILY COMMUNICATION
Seesaw is our primary digital communication platform.
Returning families will be automatically transferred to their child’s new class.
New families will receive sign-up information from their child’s teacher.
School Messenger is our district’s mass notification system (for closures/emergencies).
To opt in, text “Yes” to 67587.
When a child is absent from school, it is necessary for the parent to call the school office that morning. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, please send a note prior to the day of the absence. Parents should give the student’s name, teacher’s name, and reason for the absence. In the safety interest of your child, the school will call you when your child is absent if prior arrangements have not been made. Call: 541-347-4416
Attendance contributes to the academic success of the students. Children can copy notes or make up an assignment, but they can never get back what's most important: the discussion, the questions, the explanations by the teacher and the thinking that makes learning come alive. Punctual and regular attendance is a habit that will serve them all of their lives -- on the job, for appointments, etc. Parents will be notified if their child’s attendance or tardiness is excessive, and a plan will be developed to improve attendance. Ocean Crest maintains a minimum expectation of 96% attendance, with chronic absenteeism being defined as absences reaching 10% or more of the school year.
