Introduction to Art (FVK1000) (Open to Grades 9-12) 1 Credit/Year

Description: A foundation course (prerequisite) for all upper level art courses. Design I will focus on the art elements (line, shape, form, value, color, space, texture) and the design principles (emphasis, balance, proportion, repetition & variation, contrast, movement & transition, rhythm, unity). Students with little or no formal background in art will have exposure to a variety of art materials, techniques, processes, and styles. Areas of study may include: drawing, color theory & application, basic ceramics. Students will exit the class with a portfolio of work that showcases the start of their artistic journey. This collection of artwork showcases their newly developed skills, pursuit of quality, and breadth of experience that can be used as evidence qualifying them for upper level classes.
