Description: An introductory course and prerequisite for all upper level photography courses. Photography 1 focuses on foundational skills including technical camera use and creative elements of art, design principles, and composition to build photography knowledge and experience. This course emphasizes student awareness of the principles of good design and the art elements. Sensitivity to subject matter and appreciation of the works and merits of others is also stressed.
Objectives:
Recognize photography as a technical craft and as an art form.
Be able to operate a camera effectively.
Understand the importance of camera care and maintenance.
Apply knowledge of the camera in relation to technical areas such as composition, exposure and lighting.
Demonstrate the ability to perform in a darkroom - film development, contact printing, and enlarging.
Integrate the basic artistic fundamentals of good design with technical aspects of photography.

Prerequisite: 1 year of high school Photography 1 class with a grade of a “C” or better an equivalent course or instructor approval. DSLR camera with Manual Mode setting (any brand)
Description: An intermediate Photography course that builds on technical and creative skills learned in Photo 1. Photography 2 explores additional photography genres, influential photographers, digital editing and manipulation through Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. This course focuses on various ways to communicate student ideas, self-expression and personal voice through the production of quality images.
Objectives:
Express voice through photography.
View work critically and constructively.
Develop mastery of camera functions.
Apply knowledge of the camera in relation to technical areas such as composition, exposure, and lighting.
Demonstrate mastery of darkroom techniques.
Submit work for competition/art shows.
Apply photographic skills to school publications, academic situations, and extra-curricular activities.

Description: An upper-level photography course that is designed to further skills gained in Photography 1 and 2. This course is designed to prepare students for post-high school education and interested students for the AP 2D Design Portfolio.

Supply Replacement Fee: Students are responsible for the submission/examination cost of the AP portfolio (determined by the College Board), digital device to store images for online submission, and individual cost of unique art materials not normally provided through the class.
Prerequisite: Drawing and 2-D Design: Successful completion of Drawing and Painting 1 and 2 or equivalent, or Printmaking 1 and 2 or equivalent, and a personal interest in pursuing a degree/career in the visual arts, consent of instructor. 3-D portfolio: Successful completion of Ceramics 1 and 2 or equivalent, interest in pursuing a degree/career in the visual arts, consent of instructor.
Description: An advanced course designed for the serious art student planning to pursue a degree/career in the visual arts. Emphasis is on the development of QUALITY - technical excellence in concept, composition, and technical execution of original works of art; BREADTH of experience in a variety of media and process, and a personal CONCENTRATION on a particular problem, concept, or medium. Students are required to complete a portfolio of works to be reviewed by the College Board for (3) AP college credits.
Expectations: Display excellence in technical skills as applied to various projects. Develop conceptual expression in the creation of original, complete compositions with purpose of theme. Pursue individual interest in a particular problem or medium as an area of concentration. Organize and maintain a portfolio according to prescribed specifications as determined by the College Board.
