9th Grade

As an incoming or existing 9th grader,

here's what you should plan on:

1. Summer School: If possible, we encourage incoming 9th graders to take Health in the summer before they begin their freshman year. By taking Health in the summer, students will free up space in their schedule, which will allow them to take another elective class during 9th grade.

2. Get involved! We love it when our students participate in the numerous clubs and sports offered at Antelope Valley High School. Stop by the Activities office, which is located in the main Administration building on campus, to ask questions about what clubs are on campus, how to join, or sign up to play a sport! Interested in joining a sport or club on campus? Click here to fill out our survey!

3. Tutoring: If you're in need of additional support in your classes, please come to tutoring! We offer tutoring on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in the AVHS Library from 2:35PM - 3:35PM.

4. Brag sheet: If you're planning to apply to college, a scholarship, or a job, you may want to consider starting a brag sheet and updating it during your time at AVHS! Click here for the brag sheet. Please make a copy for yourself before editing the document.

5. Daily Progress Report: Do you need help to stay on track? Use the Daily Progress Report! This form asks about attendance, homework, and more. Click here to access the DPR.

Mental Health Counseling: Sometimes life happens and it can make us feel like we are in need of some extra help. Consider speaking to your counselor who may be able to help you. If it goes beyond traditional school counseling, we may refer you to a mental health therapist who will be able to see you once per week for FREE (as long as you have medi-cal insurance).

Khan Academy: It's an online resource to help students study and learn. If you link your Khan Academy account with your College Board account, you will be able to receive personalized support to improve your SAT score that's catered to your learning needs!

Princeton Review Homework Help: If you have access to a computer and internet at home, then you may want to consider this FREE, online tutoring program. You'll be able to chat with a tutor online 24/7! You can also submit a written essay and within 24-48 hours receive feedback on how to improve your work.
