John Lennon

John Lennon:

Biography by Ian Solomon

INTRODUCTION

“We're more popular than Jesus now.” said Lennon.

John lennon stood for peace through his lifetime.

One way he did that was by starting the “interviews in bed” movement in the 1960s. He influenced others to make rock ‘n roll music and in his solo career encouraged

peace and love. In the 1970s, Lennon joined the hippie movement and tried to encourage others to do the same thing.

YOUNG LIFE

When he was only four his mother left him to live with his aunt. When he turned sixteen his mother came back to have a better relationship with John. Unfortunately, the very same year, she got run over by a drunk off duty policeman.

“As a kid John Lennon was a prankster, and enjoyed getting in in trouble. In high school, his school principal thought he could get into art college because he did not get good grades but had good artistic talent.” says Charles J Shields biography.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

He basically accomplished all of his achievements in the late 1950s, all the 1960s, and the early 1970s. Some of his achievements are having the most successful songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney in the Beatles. The members of the Beatles consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and, Ringo Starr.

THE BEATLES

They had many great songs such as “Twist and Shout”, “Yellow Submarine,” and “Don't let me down” was one of their most popular songs because it was one of the two songs they sang on a rooftop. The other song they played on the rooftop was get back. This made the Beatles very popular because no band had ever done this before.

SOLO CAREER

When the Beatles broke up in 1970, John started his solo career. He started making completely different music in his solo career than his career in the Beatles. For example, in the Beatles he made songs like twist and shout, and revolution, but in his solo career he made songs about peace and love like his songs imagine, and give peace a chance. In his solo career he also had one of the most successful music making careers of all time, rivaling with the Beatles and Ringo Starr, George Harrison, along with Paul Mccartney's solo careers.

LIFE AND DEATH

In 1971, he and his wife Yoko Ono moved to America, but were constantly being threatened of deportation from Richard Nixon because of the marijuana conviction in England. But John believed it was because he was fighting for equality and peace, trying to start a march to stop war and provoke peace in the country.

John Winston Ono Lennon was born on October 9th 1940 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England, United Kingdom. He was educated at Quarry Bank high school, and Liverpool College of Art. In 1980 John went back to making music with the album Double Fantasy. Tragically a couple weeks later, the crazed fan Mark David Chapman shot Lennon several times in the chest. Lennon was later brought to New York City's Roosevelt Hospital where he was later found out to be dead. John Winston Ono Lennon was later inducted into the songwriters hall of fame in 1987, and later into the rock,n,roll hall of fame in 1994.
