Career Exploration Project

This project will get you started on career exploration and research.  There are three parts to this project:

1. Complete the Focus 2 Assessment and attached activities and reflection questions.

2. Complete the Handshake Profile.  You do not need to do anything else with this resource.  It is a job and internship board if you are interested in exploring opportunities and openings.

3. Create a cover letter, resume and/or LinkedIn profile.

This project allows you to pick your grade.  

Review the checklist and rubric on page 2 of the Career Exploration Instructions.  The Focus 2, Handshake profile and cover letter are required for a passing grade of C. The resume and LinkedIn Profile may be completed for a grade of B or higher.

1. Follow the steps in the attached handout and complete the Career Readiness and Self-Assessment sections. 

• Each section has five sub-sections and all of these must be completed. You can work on it and come back to it later; it will save your work. Plan on having each sub-section take 10-15 minutes to complete. 

• You can select options on top to narrow and refine your results such as what degree level you will consider. From this list, you can explore different career choices, see which ACC degree matches those choices, find salary information, etc. 

• You can click on any career listed for more information and save that career to your profile.

2. Create a Handshake Profile

• Activate your Handshake account with your ACC credentials (eID and password).

• Complete your profile setup 

• Take a screenshot of your completed profile and submit it as proof of the completed assignment.

3. Find a job posting in one of the top 3 careers recommended in your Focus 2 results.

4. Review Career Exploration Folder to review instructions, rubrics, and examples to write a cover letter, resume, and LinkedIn profile.
