All first-time at ACC students with fewer than 12 semester hours of successful college credit must take the EDUC 1300 course in their first semester at ACC.
General Studies students, and all other students with 12 or more semester hours have the option of choosing EDUC 1300 or a Speech course from the Component Area Option (090) of the Core Curriculum List.
This course is ideal for those who are:
Entering college for the first time (mandatory for students with less than 12 college credit hours)
Wanting to get the most out of their efforts.
Returning after an extended absence
Pursing an ACC degree / certificate (check your degree plan).
Students will learn new academic skills and/or strengthen the skills they bring into the classroom. This course introduces ACC's student resources and prepares new or returning students for college culture and school/work/life balance.

Research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation
Factors that impact learning
Application of learning strategies, such as:
Self-awareness, goal setting, mindset, and motivation
Identifying and accessing college resources and services
Managing Time and effort for successful outcomes.
Reading, note-taking, writing, and test-taking skills
Critical, creative, practical thinking skills
