The Internship Journal

The Senior Internship Experience is designed to give seniors a chance to gain valuable insights in a profession or field they are interested in pursuing or exploring. One of the main requirements of the experience is the completion of the Internship Journal. This is a chance for students to document their actions and reflections throughout their internship.

For every day a senior participates in their internship, they will be required to write a journal entry. This entry will be an account of what occurred at internship and what was learned. Seniors only need to write journal entries for days when they participated in their internship, either virtually or in person.

These journal entries are to be written in Google Docs, and will be submitted 3 times to the Senior Internship Google Classroom:

  1. Before the first meeting between a Senior and their Faculty Advisor (during the first week of internship).

  2. Before the second meeting between a senior and their Faculty Advisor (during the second week of internship)

  3. Before the third meeting between a senior and their Faculty Advisor (during, and nearing the end of, the third week of internship)

The submission of the journals will not only serve as a way for the seniors to record their experiences, but will give their Faculty Advisors insight into how the internship has been going and help generate meaningful dialogue when the weekly meetings between interns and advisors occur. The Faculty Advisor also serves as a guide and a resource throughout the experience, and will work with the senior and the administration if they feel that a senior is being asked to complete tasks beyond what would be considered reasonable or educational during their internship, or if they determine the Community Advisor is not meeting their responsibilities to the senior.
