The Role of the Community Advisor
The role of the Community Advisor is essential to the success of the Aurora High School Senior Internship Experience. Through the experiences provided by you, interns should gain a significant and in-depth understanding of your professional world.
Responsibilities:
Assisting the intern in developing their experience through the development of goals, objectives, and activities consistent with those objectives.
Advise and guide the intern throughout the experience.
Once per week, verify a weekly time log through the email address provided to the intern. A verification email from a program called x2VOL will indicate the hours the intern has reported each week, and the Community Advisor will be asked to confirm.
Assign a variety of responsibilities that would be considered “real” to the job environment. (For example, a lawyer assigning an intern to make photocopies and file paperwork for the entire internship would not be as valuable or appropriate as including the intern in court proceedings or meetings with clients.)
Maintain contact with the intern's Faculty Advisor as necessary, should any concerns arise regarding the intern. The Faculty Advisor will reach out via email to establish contact at the beginning of the program.
Experience Details:
The Senior Internship Experience begins on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and ends with a Senior Symposium on May 14, 2025, at 7:00 pm. The last day of the project is May 14, 2025.
Interns are to document a total of 90 hours during the April 23-May 14 time period. Those hours are comprised of time spent working at their internship, in AP Courses, in Excel TECC Courses, and in CCP Courses.
Interns may not be paid for their project work.
An intern's relative may not be in a direct line of supervision for the internship. The intern may not work at a relative’s place of business or at a place of business where the intern has been previously employed.
Each intern will have a Faculty Advisor who will act as a consultant. You will receive an email from the Faculty Advisor at the beginning of the program to establish a line of communication should any questions or concerns arise.
The interns will complete journal entries documenting their experiences, which they will submit to their Faculty Advisor.
If you have any additional questions about the Senior Internship Experience, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Baker at sbaker@aurora-schools.org.
