Q: Is Senior Internship a requirement?
A: No. The Senior Internship Experience is completely optional. Seniors who decide not to participate will continue attending all of their classes through Friday, May 16th, 2025.
Q: How can I participate in an internship if I have AP Courses?
A: You will still attend AP Courses, and the hours spent in those courses will count towards your 90 hours of internship. Each 90-minute block of an AP course on Green or White Block Days can be counted as 1.5 hours, and the 50-minute blocks of time on 8-Period Days will be rounded up to 1.0 hours. Time spent taking AP Tests will also count.
Q: How can I participate in an internship if I have CCP Courses?
A: Similarly to AP Courses, you will still attend CCP Courses, and the hours spent in those courses will count towards your 90 hours of internship.
Q: How can I participate in an internship if I am in Excel TECC?
A: Excel TECC students will be given credit for the hours they are required to remain in their program towards the 90 hours for internship. In addition, many Excel TECC seniors are already involved in an internship. In this case, you do not need to secure a second internship for the AHS experience - you can utilize the existing opportunity, and complete the journal, timelog, and symposium requirements using your Excel TECC internship.
Q: Do I have to complete my internship during school day hours?
A: No. The internship can be completed at any time of day, or on weekends, as long as you complete the 90 hours during the three-week period. There is a wide variety of work/business hours depending on different fields and professions.
Q: How am I submitting my hours at internship, hours in AP/Excel TECC/CCP courses, and journal entries?
A: All of these elements will become more clear once the Senior Internship Google Classroom is created. Specific instructions will then be provided, and the journal entries and timelogs will take the form of assignments within the classroom. You will also receive more information about how to verify your time spent at internship with your Community Advisor using x2VOL after the Google Classroom is created.
Q: Can I still apply for an internship if I did not meet one of the requirements?
A: You can still apply. In addition to the application, you will need to submit a letter to Mr. Baker explaining which qualification you did not meet, and what actions you plan on taking to ensure that you will maintain higher expectations. Mr. Baker will then determine whether or not you are approved for an internship.
Q: Can I count driving/travel time to and from my internship location toward the 90 hours required by the project?
A: No, driving/travel time cannot be counted towards your 90 hours.
If you have any additional questions about the Senior Internship Experience, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Baker at sbaker@aurora-schools.org.
