Shout Outs!

Co-Teachers!

A special shout out to all the Co-Teachers in the district. These dedicated educators are overcoming barriers, trying new instructional strategies and working collaboratively to ensure that all students have access to general education core instruction. The pictures you see are from the summer co-teaching workshop. Co-teachers across the district come together quarterly to learn and train together.

Visuals!

Aubry Broderick, the ECE teacher at Arthur Jacobson, attended the Institute training this summer and implemented what she learned into her classroom! Aubry is using visuals to help support her students learning and behavior and is seeing a positive impact of using them in her classroom. She uses the 1-2-3 chart to remind students how they should be coloring in their work after doing a demonstration with her class and keeping it posted for reference. She also has different ways her students are allowed to sit on the carpet posted for when they need a reminder. The students go up and pick which way they want to sit, giving some control back to the students while also reminding them of the expectation.

Break Cards!

Shout out to CJ Jobe Kindergarten teacher at Ilalko  for her willingness and consistent implementation of a break system that includes calm body breaks, individual breaks and breaks with a friend. The plan is divided into 5 phases that include what the break looks like, where it happens, and the frequency of the breaks all focused on planning ahead for independence for this student. The teacher met the student where she is at, which has contributed to the amazing early success of this plan.

SLC Science Inclusion!

Lainee Dow, an 8th-grade science and biology teacher at Olympic Middle School, has demonstrated dedicated efforts toward promoting inclusion. She has actively partnered with fellow teachers and specialists to ensure the full integration of students from the SLC program into her science classes. Lainee's commitment to accessibility is evident through her personalized adaptations to meet the diverse learning needs of all her students. Furthermore, she has proactively nurtured relationships with students from the SLC program, even those not enrolled in her classes, by involving them in various opportunities, such as sharing her gecko with them to get them excited about science opportunities.

Pathways Inclusion!

Educators at Lea Hill elementary are working incredibly hard to include students from the Pathways Program in general education. Most of the students access general education for core instruction and in the cases where they do not, the instructional specialist works with the Pathways teacher to ensure that kids are getting what they need. Way to go team!

AMHS Para Power Club

Auburn Mt. View paraeducators have been participating in a training series focused on supporting inclusive practices school-wide. Additionally, a big shout out to Kelly Hittle and Anne Ravencroft. They've created a paraeducator support group that meets monthly to provide training, support and connection for paraeducators at Auburn Mt. View High School.

Fostering Inclusion!

Adrianna McMahon, a 4th grade teacher at Dick Scobee Elementary School, excels at fostering inclusion in her classroom. She consistently adapts her teaching to accommodate each student's skill level, making learning engaging and meaningful for all. Adrianna's flexibility in her approach ensures that every student can access their learning materials, advocating for their specific needs. She has successfully created a welcoming and supportive community for all her students.

Inclusionary Practices Institute!

A huge shout out to all those who attended, presented, or supported this fantastic conference for ASD staff. For 2 days this summer over 270 Auburn educators came together at the Muckleshoot Event center to learn about inclusion and supporting students with disabilities in our schools. Keynote speakers Jae Kim and Shelley Moore shared powerful messages and perspectives. Additionally, breakout sessions led by ASD teachers and leaders provided deeper insight into research, practices, and mindsets that support the inclusion of all students.
