Culturally Responsive Teaching

Being culturally responsive in the classroom is key to ensuring that all students are engaged and comfortable in your classroom. Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) is all about helping students to become independent learners, deepening community in class, and adapting teaching practices to student needs (5). During my practicum, I was tasked with making a CRT goal to implement some culturally responsive teaching practices in my own classroom. Below is my weekly reflections on how I adapted to working with implicit biases and a list of teaching practices I chose to implement.

Our next task was to overhaul a lesson to align with the best practices of CRT. Below is the lesson that I overhauled followed by a reflection. To the left is the lesson plan with the reflection and to the right is the worksheet that goes along with the activity.
