The Wellness Center staff are adept in a variety of therapeutic interventions including Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength-Based Interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Affirmative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Family Systems. Support and interventions are individualized and are based on the needs of the student/family.
~ Art, gardening, walks around campus, organization skills, interactions with the Therapy Dogs, music, and education/career exploration are some of the additional factors that could be included in the process.
~ Groups are formed based on the needs of students and are designed to provide education and assist in building skills to address life's challenges.
~ Students usually meet with their therapist for six-eight sessions. If continued support is needed, Wellness Center therapists help with the transition to community-based therapists and organizations.
~ When possible, outreach services are provided at Atascadero Middle School and the Fine Arts Academy
Consent for ongoing services must be provided. Students may be seen under "minor consent" if requirements are met. Authorization to exchange information with community professionals is requested as needed.
All Wellness Center staff are mandated reporters and follow AUSD and legal protocols when addressing crises such as suicide, abuse, and threats of violence.
