Credit Overview
General information about earning CGF credit for an internship
Students must have both an approved internship and completed application package submitted by the application deadlines
Student will be cleared to register for credit after all materials are submitted to SOS Internship Coordinator

No late adds or retroactive credit can be issued
All credit is offered Fall, Spring, Summer terms. C session only

SOS or SFS 484 Capstone Internship (4 credit hours)
Effective Summer 2023 and forward, School of Sustainability majors are no longer required to complete SOS 484 Capstone Internship Credit. Students may choose to complete internships and register in SOS 484 Elective Internship credit if desired.
Course overview:
SOS/SFS 484 Capstone Internship is the internship course undergraduates need to complete as part of their degree requirements. This course focuses on internship success and professional development skills. In addition to completing the internship, there are weekly assignments in the 484 course. Examples include internship assignments such as tracking time, setting learning objectives, examining organizational culture, discussion boards, mid-term & final evaluations, poster or executive summary, reflections. Examples of professional development assignments include resume, cover letter, LinkedIn, STAR statements, mock interview.
Course pre-requisites:
Completed SOS 231 Careers in Sustainability
Completed at least 3 upper division SOS courses (300 - 400 level)
Completed at least 56 credit hours
In good academic standing: meets cumulative ASU GPA and SOS major GPA
Must have internship lined up before the start of the term, and submit application materials by posted deadline
Note:
This course must be completed with a "B" or higher grade in order to fulfill the degree requirement
SFS majors also need SFS 215 & SFS 216
SOS 484 / 584 Elective Internship (3 credit hours)
Course overview:
This course is combined undergraduate and graduate students earning elective credit, and focuses on internship success. Assignments are completed weekly. Examples of assignments include tracking time, setting learning objectives, examining organizational culture, discussion boards, mid-term & final evaluations, poster or executive summary, reflections.
Course pre-requisites:
Completed at least 12 hours at ASU, including SOS 110 & 111 (for undergraduates)
In good academic standing: meets cumulative ASU GPA and SOS major GPA
Must have internship lined up before the start of the term, and submit application materials by posted deadline
Note:
Elective credit does not fulfill Capstone internship credit
Students should consult their academic advisor to determine what this credit may count toward for the degree
SOS 484 Capstone Research (3 credit hours, ASU Online students only)
Course overview:
This course is only open to ASU Online students completing a directed study under the supervision of a faculty member. Students will register for 3 credits of Capstone Research and 1 credit of Professional Development/Internship Reflection to equal the 4 credit total needed to fulfill the Capstone requirement. Content focuses on the research and final product.
Course pre-requisites:
All pre-requisites listed for SOS 484 Capstone Internship must be met
Students must be Sustainability majors enrolled in ASU Online program
Must have research project and supervising faculty mentor lined up before the start of the term, and submit application materials by posted deadline
Note:
This course must be completed with a "B" or higher grade in order to fulfill the degree requirement
SOS 484 Professional Development & Internship Reflection (1 credit hour)
Course overview:
This one-credit course delivers the same internship success and professional development assignments delivered in SOS 484 Capstone Internship. In order to fulfill Capstone Internship requirement, this one-credit version must be paired with SOS 484 Capstone Research (3 credits) , or with credit on an approved ASU study abroad internship program.
Course pre-requisites:
All pre-requisites listed for SOS 484 Capstone Internship/Capstone Research must be met
If applicable, student must be enrolled in approved internship study abroad program
