A: No. While CGF students are highly encouraged to complete internships, they are not required to graduate from any of our degree programs.
A: Yes. The process is similar to finding a job. Students need to identify opportunities that align with their interests, skill level, academic schedule, and location. Part of the learning process includes identifying suitable opportunities, and applying and interviewing for them. The College of Global Futures offers support and advisement in this process, but ultimately the student is responsible for securing an appropriate internship and registering for credit.
A: No. We cannot approve retroactive credit. The student must complete the internship and be enrolled in credit at the same time. The course contains assignments related to the internship experience. Some students may have the opportunity to extend an internship into the following semester, and register for credit at that time. But credit cannot be awarded for an internship completed in the past.
A: Internship credit is offered in C and B sessions during fall, spring, and summer terms. Remember, summer tuition applies.
A: Yes, many graduate students complete internships, either for the professional experience, elective credit or both. While many internship opportunities are open to both undergraduate and graduate students, some have restricted eligibility. Carefully review the position description to determine if graduate students are eligible to apply.
A: Luckily, the process for securing an internship is the same in any location and many students complete internships outside of the state of Arizona. SustainabilityConnect has both local to Arizona internships and fully remote opportunities. Handshake posts local, remote, and internships in all states. LinkedIn is a good resource for national postings. Find out about opportunities in your area by researching your local city or town government hiring websites, utility providers, local non-profits, environmental or conservation organizations, state parks, zoos, etc.
Visit the Chamber of Commerce website for your area to connect with organizations, use LinkedIn to see if any ASU or CGF alumni are in your area and connect with them. Also see Create an Internship section for more information
