Welcome to the Online Introduction Video Course! We are so glad to have you with us. As many of you experienced, the pandemic plunged us headfirst into online learning. While we adapted to this change, we found that our students wanted more interaction with us as their professors to feel a sense of belonging, connection, and engagement throughout their courses.
Through research and feedback from students and faculty, several faculty members created personal introduction videos to help better connect with their students and increase engagement. It was well received; students reported feeling more connected, they engaged more with the course, and overall learning outcomes improved. As a result, we are having our faculty create introduction videos for online courses, starting with our upcoming classes in the Spring semester.
You should have attended a workshop and recorded an introduction video. In this 90-minute course, you will use the video to create a full introduction video using DaVinci Resolve editing software, upload it to your university YouTube account, and embed it in your Canvas course. The IT department has already downloaded the editing software on your university-issued laptop. We know not everyone has experience in video creation or editing. Not to worry! You will get step-by-step instructions, complete Knowledge Checks, and be given checklists to assess your video along the way.
You will see video demonstrations throughout the course. You can choose to watch the videos, read the video transcripts, or read the PDF versions of the video.
Each Knowledge Check section contains an interactive Show What You Know activity. Simply follow the prompts and use your resources to guide you as needed.
You will edit your videos throughout the course. Each section contains a checklist like the one above to help guide you and ensure you follow the university brand standards guidelines.
