Now that we have the timeline organized, it’s time to dive into editing your introduction video! The next several sections will teach you how to use some basic editing tools, starting with trimming and cutting your video. There may be parts of your video you want to cut out or trim down because of silence or pauses. Keeping your students engaged and focused on you and your message will keep their attention.
Note: If you are happy with your video, you are not required to trim it at all, but consider videos you find engaging outside of our academic world. YouTube creators are often educating their viewers, but do so by cutting out pauses and material that isn’t adding value to engagement. If you choose not to cut/trim your video, it is still important to learn how to edit your videos on all optional effects and complete the activities. We want you to have a foundation you can take with you for any videos you create in the future.
Watch the video demonstration below to trim your video clips.
Now it's your turn to trim your video. Play through your video and identify any areas that need cutting or trimming, such as long pauses or unnecessary content. Use the Blade Tool to make precise cuts and ensure a smooth flow in your video.
Check Your Work!
Review your video to make sure you have a clear and seamless introduction that is not choppy, such as cutting yourself off too soon after a sentence, or not having enough pause between trimmed sections.
You should have the following in your DaVinci project:
Unwanted sections cut and removed from the timeline.
Smooth transitions between clips without abrupt interruptions.
Trimmed edges for the beginning and end of clips as needed.
If any of these are missing, please go back and review the activity to ensure all elements are in your project before moving on.
