The final step to producing your podcast is editing. Editing is used to shorten the length of the podcast, to remove recording errors or background noises, and to have a more refined end-product. Editing can be done on Audacity with knowledge of a few steps and tools:
1) Editing tools:
Selection – highlights sections for deletion or splitting; use command + I to split sections
Time shift – moves sections of tracks after being split
Envelope – adjusts volume within each track (increase, decrease, taper)
2) If multiple tracks are generated from multiple microphones, use the “split track” function under “audio track” menu, to split and then edit each track separately
3) Once an edit is made (cut or deletion) or an effect applied, the change is permanent and cannot be undone. It is always best to make a copy of your recording before editing just in case you want to go back and access your raw material.
This video segment below covers editing podcasts - again, there may be more information than you need to know for your specific podcast.
