Currently, Leimert park is known for it artistry community. It is known for it roots to Africana or African culture and musical. It was important for me to include all the cultures' demographics within the project. Music does not only speak to one culture, it is a universal thing that each person can find himself or herself depending on the emotion.
The goal of the project is to give back the site orientation to the public. Residency will occupy the top level and the lower/ ground will be used for the public. Since the site is in the center of Leimert park, I wanted it as part of the park where people can still use throughout the day. The additional stores in front will create opportunity for the small vendors within the community.
The idea beyond my project is to bring the community together on a mixed use place where each person/ family has the oppportunity to grow. With rent raising within the Los Angeles areas, it is hard for small business as well (minority) to keep up with the rent. Therefore, building within the community will help them economically, culturally and emotionally as the community will be self sufficient. And it is crucial to protect the history this community and stop homelessness due to lack of affordable housing.
