Abstract

TADD Lighting Systems is designing a railed gooseneck suspended lighting system for the operating room (OR): HiLight Operating Room Light. Everyday in the United States, 10,303,000 outpatient surgeries are performed, each needing a precision form of light. Most current OR lighting solutions are disruptive and rotate about a fixed pivot point, occupying limited floor space. Our design will give an unparalleled range of motion that surgeons and medical providers can manipulate. Specifically, this lighting system is a single adjunct light attached to the ceiling for the aid in precision lighting in the OR. In addition, as in any OR, sterilization is of the utmost importance. The current market answer to sterilization is a disposable plastic sleeve on the light handle, whereas our solution incorporates a sterilizable sleeve that attaches via magnets at the head of the light.

Through virtual prototyping, many different standards have been tested and verified, thus ensuring that the HiLight Operating Room Light can consistently provide the needed light in the OR. A gooseneck system will be suspended from an overhead railing system along with the head of the light. With this design, surgical staff are able to move the device without any pivot points. Currently there are several companies that make OR lights but none that have a gooseneck suspension for the lighting fixtures. At a projected cost of $4,000, the TADD HiLight Operating Room Light features RGB LED focused lighting, gooseneck mobility, and a 1D railing system that outshines the competition.
