Backstory

With emerging resources and technological advances, the international space race is heating up more than ever. From one edge of the galaxy to another, Interstellar Orbit allows players to travel the board and race towards the final destination. Designed by BME382’s Team 17, each player chooses between a comet, moon, sun, or satellite to embark on a journey to orbit the galaxy. They begin at a designated planet or “home” and travel the galaxy through dice rolling mechanisms in an attempt to reach a central, final destination. After traveling through the entire galaxy, the final destination contains a black hole to escape into another galaxy. The first player to explore the galaxy and escape through the black hole wins the game. Players move along the board by rolling dice in order to determine movement and plan sabotage on other players. Each turn allows a person to choose whether to move their piece further along the mission or setback another player on their quest. Through meticulous strategy and wit, the mission is completed when the first player reaches the black hole. This journey incorporates thrill, critical thinking skills, and competition to compose a game through the means of space exploration. Interstellar Orbit is designed for 2-4 players to undergo a space race along the galaxy to reach the center of the universe within a 30 minute time frame.
