Debating the Early Modern

Debating the 'Early Modern' in South Asian History was a two-day national conference. It had a dazzling line up of 22 historians who deliberated on whether -- in response to global tendencies of history-writing -- historians of South Asia should also adopt the category of 'early modernity' to designate the period between c. 1500 and c. 1800. They shared their ongoing research and discuss if this new category makes sense in their individual areas of study.
