Student Leadership

The History Society of Ashoka University was founded in 2017 with the aim to make history as a discipline accessible to all students by engaging in both academic and non-academic tools, and to provide a forum where all people passionate about History can engage, debate and facilitate learning within the discipline.

It was a pleasure restarting the history society and working with the incoming batches, with their unbounded enthusiasm and penchant for heart-warming, yet critically incisive projects. Organizing the townhall against sexual harassment in academia and university spaces at the time when the List by Raya Sarkar had began to circulate, established the History Society as a force on campus that was as invested in intervening in the present as it was in plumbing the past. It has been eye opening and extremely reassuring to see the direction the society has taken since then. I'm confident in its ability to continue to grapple with the vagaries of history--as we live, know, and write it

Modhera Sun Temple is a shrine near Mehsana, Gujarat constructed in the eleventh century during the reign of the Solanki King Bhimadeva. The temple, an exemplar of the Maru-Gurjara style, comprises two fragments, the Gudhamandapa and the Garbhagriha. This photo was clicked inside the Gudha-Mantapa, a marvelous sight, rife with symmetry and extraordinary detail.
