My exhibition explores the theme of the e ects of pollution and the hope for a future without it. I enjoy working with mixed media, especially to create three-dimensional art, and I worked with plastic bags to better investigate that theme. Half of my pieces incorporate plastic bags, Eugene the Jelly sh, Bottle Cap-italism, and The Plastic Starry Night to add to the message that everybody can do their part to help the environment.
My pieces are divided into three categories, ocean, earth, and sky. Seymour the Octopus and Eugene the Jelly sh are in the ocean category, Bottle Cap-italism and The Plastic Starry Night are in the earth category, and Gry ndor VS Slytherin and Midsummer Night Dream are in the sky category. The number of pieces that have plastic corresponds to the amount of plastic in the respective categories. There’s one piece with plastic in the ocean, two pieces with plastic in the earth, and no pieces with plastic in the sky.
Ideally, I would arrange these pieces so that the ocean category is on the bottom left of a wall, the earth category is slightly higher and in the middle of the wall, and nally, the sky category is at the top right of the wall. However, there are some restrictions as to how these can be placed because both Eugene the Jelly sh and Gry ndor VS Slytherin have to be hanged and take up a lot of space. Furthermore, I have a limited space where I display my exhibition. Therefore, I cannot do the diagonal slant up, which is a bit disappointing. This exhibition is also meant to be somewhat interactive; the audience can lightly touch Eugene the Jelly sh and Gry ndor VS Slytherin to make them move. Gry ndor VS Slytherin is especially fun to watch since it is a mobile.
I want my art to have an uplifting message, a message of hope for the future. Part of why I wanted to arrange my art in a diagonal upwards slant is because of the more “uplifting” message of my sky pieces that do not have pollution. I do not want my art to focus solely on the bad, which is why I did not include plastic in all my art. Like Seymour the Octopus, this situation can be xed and that is one of the key points of my exhibition.
